OPRAH!--Randy Pausch and Crazy Sexy Cancer

"I've never understood pity and self-pity as an emotion. We have a finite amount of time. Whether short or long, it doesn't matter. Life is to be lived."
-Randy Pausch

Congrats to Randy Pausch and Kris Carr (of Crazy Sexy Cancer) for spreading their AWESOME messages through the Oprah Winfrey Show! It will air tomorrow-be sure to set your Tivos or clear your schedule to watch this! I am very much looking forward to it!

Randy Pausch is a very inspirational individual, a husband and father of 3 young children, Carnegie Mellon professor and a pancreatic cancer survivor. (The video of his 'Last Speech' is below).

Today, I am grateful that: the surgery has forced me to relax this weekend which almost never happens, for visitors and friends and family for distracting me from the jaw pain...

Love,
Rach

Crazy Sexy Cancer...(and apple picking)

This is a good time to introduce Crazy Sexy Cancer and the whole movement that has quickly begun because of it. It is an AMAZING documentary that was on the TLC channel, it's a book (shown above), and blog done by a self-described cancer cowgirl, Kris Carr. She is in her 30's and a survivor of a rare type of cancer and chronicled her experiences through the lens of a camera. Her story is on her blog, site and in her book.

I was privileged enough to get to meet Kris in Chicago a few weeks ago at a cancer conference and want to spread the news about what she is doing! She knows a lot about living life to the fullest, living in a very healthy way and is very inspiring.

They are going to re-air her documentary soon on Discovery Health, Oct 8th and 14th. It will also be airing again on TLC at the end of the month but the specific date has not been confirmed. (http://health.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=62.14211.55771.0.0)

Additionally, she will be on Montel Williams show on Monday. (http://www.montelshow.com/show/today/monday/)

I encourage you to check it out. Some of my "non-cancer friends" have been amazed by her and read the book and got a lot out of it too!

Otherwise, I went apple picking in the country today with friends (I couldn't pass up the opportunity to procrastinate on schoolwork, it will get done)...I'll share some pictures (I've been playing with my camera more these days...a new hobby perhaps to add to the other 500 hobbies?)...

Today, I am grateful for: friends, family and yummy food!!

On tap for tomorrow: 20th Reunion for Camp Rainbow for kids with cancer (I helped organize it!) Pretty exciting!

Love,

Rachel
