I'd love to know your story! If you feel comfortable, send me your email and I won't approve it to be public and we can communicate that way :).Rach
I just found your story and am amazed. I was diagnosed with Askin's tumor when I was 19 years old and am now an almost 20 year survivor of the cancer. At the time I was told I was the first person to survive long term with the cancer. I admire what you have accomplished with your life. Being given a new birthday is a wonderful thing to take advantage of.Kevin
Kevin-Great to hear from you! That's amazing. Did you have Askin's once? Where was it at?Rachel
Hi, Rachel. It's very strange to stumble across your page, as well as to see a couple of other commenters who have survived Askins. I was diagnosed at age 16 (1987) -- also very shortly after the tumor type was first described. I am now a 24-year survivor, with two beautiful little boys. I was originally given 6 months max. to live, and vividly remember looking at the fuzzy buds bursting out on the tree in our front yard the following spring, when I'd thought I'd never see them again. I'm so very happy that you've made it so far!Never having been able to find a cause for the thing, I like to pretend that it was caused by fallout from the Chernobyl meltdown (I was living in France at the time -- and no, I don't really believe that was the cause!).
Thanks for your comment, Clare :). Congrats on your success!
