I just found your story and am amazed. I was diagnosed with Askin's tumor when I was 19 years old and am now an almost 20 year survivor of the cancer. At the time I was told I was the first person to survive long term with the cancer. I admire what you have accomplished with your life. Being given a new birthday is a wonderful thing to take advantage of.

Kevin-
Great to hear from you! That's amazing. Did you have Askin's once? Where was it at?

Hi, Rachel.

It's very strange to stumble across your page, as well as to see a couple of other commenters who have survived Askins. I was diagnosed at age 16 (1987) -- also very shortly after the tumor type was first described. I am now a 24-year survivor, with two beautiful little boys. I was originally given 6 months max. to live, and vividly remember looking at the fuzzy buds bursting out on the tree in our front yard the following spring, when I'd thought I'd never see them again. I'm so very happy that you've made it so far!

Never having been able to find a cause for the thing, I like to pretend that it was caused by fallout from the Chernobyl meltdown (I was living in France at the time -- and no, I don't really believe that was the cause!).
