Locked Up with a Dragonfly

While on my trip to Florida this week, the place we were staying was undergoing some renovations. During the nice dinner (with the salmon and yummy cake), I had to use the restroom. Well, the only one that you could use was out by the pool area.

It was a one person room that was rather let's say...like you would expect an outdoor pool restroom to be. I went in, realized another person was waiting behind me, locked the door, and then notice there is an ENORMOUS dragonfly buzzing crazily around the bathroom.

I was somewhat frightened-having heard that dragonflies sometimes sting or bite. I thought-that would really hurt. I've never seen one so huge. Option A: Run out of here like a crazy woman and go up to my room to use the facilities. Option B: Stick it out and pray for the best!

I swatted at it a few times as it nose-dived towards me and then I remembered this is a dragonfly, my personal symbol. I even had on my dragonfly ring! I said a little prayer, in hopes that the dragonfly would settle down while I did my business. And thankfully it did.

Then I washed my hands extra quickly and warned the lady behind me about it!

Maybe it was sign...I'm not sure what it meant. I'm just happy I got out of there safely ;)!

Today, I am grateful for a lovely day with a friend, a lovely evening with girlfriends last night, new families in the area to babysit for, for a relaxing weekend ahead, my husband, family, friends and GOD!

Human Enlightenment

For my class, I had to Photoshop 5+ images to represent "Human Enlightenment". I personally took the background pic, the angel on the building, the 2 small dragonflies mating and the pic on the side of the column. My friend Mary took the pic on the front of the column in Denmark (a fellow sarcoma survivor who was my roomie in Denmark, when I went with the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative-she runs Adult Bone Cancer Survivors!) The pic of the column and angel was found randomly and the butterflies from a magazine!

Enjoy-be enlightened. Haha. Corny.

Today, I am grateful for: some depuffing on the 'square face', being able to make it through a full day of school with enough energy, grateful that I am normally able to eat whatever I want and this "mushy diet" is temporary

Dragonfly...My Personal Symbol

People that know me, know that my personal symbol is a dragonfly-it has been for years. I think it happened sometime after the dawn of cancer. It is a freeing symbol to me, a beautiful insect. It is hidden or obvious in most of my paintings or drawings. I want to even put one somewhere on my wedding dress, even if it is on the inside.

I regularly wear a ring with a dragonfly (shown above), a gift from my art therapist. I have many other neat dragonfly pieces-all unique and special, just like the people who gave them to me.

Different cultures' positive interpretations of the dragonfly include:

-Associations with water, spring, fertility, renewal, and considered a messenger

-The dragonfly's wings reflect and refract their beautiful colors and the light of the sun-leading to a mystical and magical symbolism.

-In Japan, the dragonfly is a symbol of joy and new light.

-Some Native American believe that dragonflies are a symbol of renewal after a time of great hardship
